Always Touch the Patient

A medical-school professor led a group of student interns through a ward of a city hospital that treats many of the urban poor, including street people. They came to the bed of a man with a badly infected foot, the kind of sight from which most people would turn away. But the doctor took the foot in his hand as he talked at some length with the patient about his condition. As the students and the doctor walked down the hall to another ward, the doctor said simply, “Always touch the patient.”

This is the continuing good news of the Incarnation.  In Jesus Christ, God touches us.
