I was interested recently to read the dedication to a grandson by Ralph W. Sockman, one of the great preachers of the last century who was pastor of Christ Church (Methodist) in New York City for nearly forty-five years. Sockman dedicated his How to Believe: The Questions that Challenge Man’s Faith Answered in Light of the Apostles’ Creed (Doubleday, 1953): “To my grandson, Billy, in the hope that he will someday know what he believes as firmly as he now knows what he wants.” - Donald McKim, Gathering Voices (The Thoughtful Christian blog) February 26, 2011 Such is the task of Christian parenting and grandparenting (and, indeed, all Christian education). |
